Comparative Genomics of Non-Model Invertebrates

Nadège Guiglielmoni ​is workin on ESR Project 5: Using chromosome conformation capture to assemble genomes to perfection under the supervision of Prof. Jean-François Flot at the Université libre de Bruxelles. With her project withing IGNITE, she will aim to develop a new tool for genome assembly using DNA 3D contact data. This data is obtained with a technique called chromosome conformation capture (3C, Hi-C). With the information of DNA structure, Nadège hopes to assemble complete and accurate genomes, which can then serve as a good reference for future works. The tool will be tested on the genome of chaetognath, whose position in the tree of life is still being discussed and may be a pivot in evolution. Nadège also expects to use this tool on other invertebrate genomes. At the Université Libre de Bruxelles, she will also assist in practical classes in bioinformatics and biology.

Before joining IGNITE, Nadège first obtained a Bsc in Life Sciences at Paris Sud University, then a Msc in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics at Paris Saclay University. She then went on to do her 6-months Master degree internship in the team MORPHEME at INRIA (French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control) under the supervision of Grégoire Malandain and Caroline Medioni, and her subject was the 3D reconstruction of remodeling axons from 3D+t microscopy acquisitions of Drosophila melanogaster brains. Later on, Nadège worked as an engineer at INRA (French National Institute for Agricultural Research) under the supervision of Matthieu Falque and Olivier Martin. Her subject there was genetic mapping, and more precisely developing features for a genetic mapping tool as an R package, and building consensus maps for the assessment of Theobroma cacao genome. Nadège was also part of the first Meet-U project (see DOI:10.1371/journal.pcbi.1005992).

In her own words: "I am very interested in the field of genomics and everything related. I also try to keep up to date with new bioinformatics tools and techniques, while interacting with the bioinformatic network. I also love to take part in teaching, which I started by private tutoring classes since 2015, and that I can now do in Bsc and Msc practical classes at the Université Libre de Bruxelles." When not busy with her ambitios research plans, Nadège also likes to visit various places, famous and less famous ones, a hobby that she combine with photography, which she's  started practicing 3 years ago and which has won her the position of an  "official paparazzi of IGNITE".
